How Long Does Countertop Fabrication and Installation Take?

One of the most common questions we hear is:“How long will it take to get my new countertops?” The short answer is: it depends on a few key steps. The good news? Once everything is finalized, the process moves quickly and smoothly.

Here’s a breakdown of what the typical countertop timeline looks like from start to finish.

  1. Design, Material Selection & Final Decisions (1–3 Weeks)

This phase happens before anything is measured or made. It includes:

  • Choosing your material (porcelain, quartz, natural stone, Dekton, etc.)
  • Selecting colours, finishes, and edge profiles
  • Finalizing sink cutouts and backsplash details
  • Confirming cabinetry is installed and ready for templating

The timeline here really depends on how quickly decisions are made and materials are confirmed. Some specialty or imported slabs may also have longer lead times.

  1. Templating (Digital Measurement) (1 Day)

Once cabinets are fully installed and level, we schedule templating. This is when precise digital measurements are taken to ensure a perfect fit. Templating itself only takes about 1–2 hours on site for an average kitchen, and after that, your project officially moves into production.

  1. Fabrication (1–3 Weeks)

Fabrication is where your slabs are cut, shaped, finished, and prepared for installation. This includes:

  • Cutting sink and faucet openings
  • Polishing edges
  • Bookmatching or vein alignment (if applicable)
  • Quality checks

Fabrication time depends on:

  • Material type (porcelain and quartzite require extra care and therefore take longer to cut)
  • Project complexity
  • Current shop volume

Most projects are completed within 7–15 business days after templating.

  1. Installation (1 Day for Most Projects)

Installation is usually the fastest part of the process. Most kitchens are installed in one day, while larger or more complex projects may take longer or be done in stages.

During installation, our team will:

  • Set and level countertops
  • Secure seams
  • Install sinks if part of the scope
  • Ensure everything fits and finishes properly

If your project includes multiple areas (kitchen, vanities, fireplace surrounds, etc.), installation may be spread across more than one visit.

  1. Final Touches & Enjoying Your New Space

After installation, you may need to wait a short period before:

  • Using undermount sinks (adhesives need time to cure)
  • Installing plumbing fixtures

Once that’s complete, your space is ready to enjoy!

What Can Affect the Timeline?

Several factors can impact how long the full process takes:

  • Backordered or specialty materials
  • Changes to design after templating
  • Cabinet delays or site readiness
  • Complex layouts or custom features

That’s why we always recommend starting the countertop selection process early in your renovation or build, even if installation is still weeks away.

The Bottom Line

From final measurements to installation, most countertop projects are completed within 2–4 weeks. When planned early and coordinated with your builder or contractor, the process is straightforward and stress-free.
